Visiting my parents is always fun but this time around it was particularly amazing as it was my first time in Nigeria! I truly felt like I was on holiday; that is to say without a care in the world.
My parents and I spent a lot of time together which was lovely! We went to bars and restaurants, swimming pools, and watched Feyenoord annihilate Ajax in a spectacular game. I also played tennis there for the first time in nearly a decade.
We went to a market, Balogun market, which was the first time for both Rob and me. The market was very different to what I had imagined. We saw a goat walking around. We got offered security by locals albeit some of them were half the size of Rob... And Viv had a compulsion to intensely negotiate the prices of goods that they were selling there.
I think my highlight would certainly be the last day where we went to beach house. Calling it a beach house is in all honesty a bit misleading as it is more like a hut! Nonetheless, the time spent there was amazing: we rented a quad bike which was extremely fun, swam in the pool, had a barbecue and played football. The drive to the airport in an armoured car was also an experience and I had a lovely chat there with my dad.
Finally, I want to thank my parents for letting me come to Lagos to visit them! They quickly managed to surround themselves with amazing friends and are seemingly truly enjoying their stay (which isn't too hard if you basically live on a resort). I am also grateful to Glory for the amazing meals she made and everything she does for us. I can't end this without also wanting to thank Ali and Yinka for the quality time spent in the infamous traffic of Lagos and making sure we always got to our destination safely.
