End of April Rob and I left for a short break to Accra Ghana’s capital. We started with a long delay of 4 hours, but we were informed three days before departure which was very convenient. It is remarkable in a country like Nigeria that flight delays are already known 3 days in advance….. The flight took only 45 minutes and with the hour time difference we arrived at the same time as we left, well sort of.

We stayed in the Labadi Beach Hotel, which was absolutely fabulous. Located at the beach, with two nice swimming pools and a great restaurant we were at the place to be. We started our days peacefully at the pool after first having a good start with a healthy breakfast. In the afternoon we took a regular taxi to go into town, which is possible in Ghana. We saw some very nice markets and did a little bit of sightseeing. We had an excellent dinner at the highest sky bar of West Africa. This dinner was outstanding and I will not quickly forget it. We also found a food square with a Thai, Japanese and Spanish restaurant. The last one we choose to have our dinner and again bingo, great tapas, nice ambiance and friendly people. So overall for a mini week an escape to Ghana is great. The only thing we absolutely did not appreciate was the pushy men who tried to sell something to you. In Lagos they try to sell their goods as well, but if you say "no thank you", it’s done. In Accra it was not this way, they kept on walking next to you, telling horrible stories about why they needed the money and we needed to buy their stuff. They simply did not stop begging for it.

We’ve made long walks in the afternoons on the beach and in the city, it’s safe there, so we could do it. In Lagos you don’t do this. After 6 days we headed back to Lagos, well rested.

Our first visit to an African country while we live here, hope we can add a few more countries to our list.
