Flying Ayo

We went to the beachhouse last weekend. We had not been there for some time. We have been too busy unpacking and travelling. Vivienne, Tineke, Gert-Jan and Natascha met at the jetski club and went with the NB Boat to our beachhouse as well as our dogs Ayo and  Kelsey. It is now getting really into the dry season so with the speed of the boat and being on the water the temperature is very comfortable. We had a good time at the beach house. It is very relaxing and far away from the noise and stress of Lagos. Relaxing in the pool, having the barbeque done by the employees is very cool. After some bottles of prosecco we decided to walk to the ocean. When we were walking in the direction of the sea we saw some big birds above us, but we did not pay any attention to them. Both Ayo and Kelsey (Springer spaniel) were playing and running after one another. Suddenly we saw a bird “diving” into the direction of Ayo and when he was about 2 meters above him he did a flyby. Vivienne started laughing because it looked like we were In a movie but I realised that this bird was looking for his Sunday Lunch and considered Ayo as his Sandwich. So I started running to the dogs but they thought I was playing so they started to run away…… And then the next bird came diving from the sky to give it another shot. I threw the leash towards the bird which took his attention and he flew away. We put Ayo immediately on his leash and kept him close. When we came back at the beachhouse we asked what kind of birds we had seen. It were seahawks. You see all these movies on youtube, facebook, etc, and then you think how can you be so stupid, and then you see it happening and you think this can not be real.

After some more swimming, bbq-ing and relaxing we decided to leave and then Ayo and Kelsey had disappeared. First you think they are somewhere close but no dogs. Then we went in different directions. I decided to go in the direction of the beach and the whole time I was also looking at the sky to see if our dog was not flying by beneath a hawk. I came at about 10 meters from the ocean and did not see any dogs, so I turned around and walked back to the beachhouse. When I was almost back I jumped in the sky because something wet brushed along my legs…. It was Ayo. And he had been swimming in the see… So Natascha and I went back to the sea again and there we found Kelsey, very happy and also very wet.........We said to each other, we don't have little children anymore to look after but now we have dogs behaving like naughty children and go for a swim in an ocean with a very strong current. They disappeared for more than half an hour at least. Too long!

Our carriers in the mean time had arrived to carry our coolboxes and luggage back to the boat. We had a great day and a lot of fun. And Ayo maybe a little bit too much….....
